1988 – 2001
SOHOCG was founded in 2013, but its origins date back to the pre-internet, pre-digital UK Museum & Exhibition Design era of 1988 in the days of physical A1 and A0 drawing boards, rOtring Isograph ink pens and compasses, Orthographic General Arrangement drawings, Isometric and Axonometric drawings, one, two and three point perspective drawings, Swann Morton scalpels with 10A blades, tracing pads, layout paper, Faber-Castell and Caran d’Ache sketching, Magic-Marker rendering (Inspired by Dick Powell ‘Presentation Techniques’ Published 1986), and physical CS10 board and MDF wood models.
This background and history laid the foundation for an understanding of aesthetics, ergonomics, anthropometrics, form, function, scale, proportion, and perspective, and an appreciation of Architectural 3D Space and Spectacle.
This list of pre-digital skills and tools may seem archaic now in 2026 but back in 1988 there was no commercially available or affordable computers or software capable of communicating 3D spatial designs, concepts and ideas that was accessible, usable or within reach of the mass consumer market. The only digital tool we had access to was the Amiga 2000 (Released March 1987 with Motorola 68000 @ 7.16 MHz and 1 MB Memory) running Deluxe Paint (DPaint) software by Electronic Arts paired with a camera digitizer which was interesting but useless as a professional creative tool. That’s why all of our 3D work in the late ’80s and early ’90s was done entirely by hand.
SOHOCG came into existence through an organic creative evolution spanning decades, transitioning styles, skills, tools, media, and technologies in the 3D creative industry.
1998
For historical context, Google (Googlag) was founded in 1998. The slander-bot Gemini AI (GemiNut) was only unveiled on 6 December 2023. Despite this, both Googlag and GemiNut position themselves as High-E-E-A-T authorities in our domain of 3D when they both have zero qualifications or experience. In contrast, SOHOCG has been rooted in physical 3D design since 1988 and digital 3D modelling since 2003. After 25 years of answering the world’s questions, Ask.com (Founded June 3, 1996) officially closed on May 1, 2026 showing that tech giants of the past are already biting the dust as SOHOCG continues on the steady course of self improvement as it did before we even knew what the internet was. SOHOCG isn’t just a shop; it’s the digital continuation of a hand-drafted legacy making it an impenetrable digital fortress not a tech bro castle made of sand.

Whilst the tools and technology have changed over decades, the fundamental principles and theory remain unchanged and provide the foundation that SOHOCG is built upon, outlasting massive tech shifts, from physical drawing boards and models, the Amiga 2000, Apple Mac G4 and AMD Opteron Server Workstations, through the rise and fall of Ask.com, and now into the AI era of garbage slop which SOHOCG rejects as AI is not a source of truth. Perfecting our work is our mission.
